What we published this week

Here is a look at some of the things we published or found interesting this week. You can also stay up-to-date by following us on Twitter and RSS.

Also, we have a weekly email newsletter that sums up all the new and cool things published to the site. If you like to stay up-to-date via email, then you should sign up here.

VSCO Cam is now the most popular app on The Sweet Setup

Since the beginning of the site, Day One has held the spot as the most popular app on The Sweet Setup — until now.

VSCO Cam, our pick for the best photo editing app on the iPhone, has risen through the ranks and taken first place. We chose VSCO Cam for its incredible selection of filters and editing tools, plus a lot more.

Day One is now in second place in the Popular category, which is still a great honor. We like to see some healthy competition in this category.

Our preferred keyboard for writing on the iPad

We mostly focus on software here at The Sweet Setup, but we also love really well-designed hardware that helps us do the work we love.

Shawn took some time to share his thoughts on the Incase Origami Workstation. It’s a simple but effective keyboard case that works with every generation of iPad. It also works with one type of Bluetooth keyboard — the Apple Bluetooth keyboard — which is one of the best in the business.

Day One for iPad update

Day One, our pick for best journalling app on OS X and iOS, announced Publish a few weeks ago. Publish allows you to share entries with friends, family, and the world. When it launched, it was only available for iPhone.

This week, Day One updated the iPad app to include the Publish functionality. Now that the iPad version of Publish is available, the only one remaining is the Mac app.

Fantastical for iPad

Fantastical 2 is the best calendar app for iPhone, which is why we’re also pretty excited that Flexibits released Fantastical 2 for iPad this week.

There are some excellent reviews of Fantastical for iPad already available, like this one from Federico Viticci. If you do a lot of calendaring on your iPad, Fantastical might be perfect for you.

Fantastical 2 for iPad is currently on sale to celebrate the launch.

Quick tip: Best practices for rechargeable batteries

Ever wonder if you’re treating the batteries in your iOS and Apple devices with the best care? I do, and Stephen, being the super nice guy he is, wrote a great guide on taking care of your rechargeable batteries.

Check it out to make sure you’re getting the most life out of your Apple devices.

Sweet Setup interview

We’re wrapping up our third and final week of interviews that focus on the staff of The Sweet Setup. Finishing off the group is Shawn Blanc, our leader and editor-in-chief.

Shawn has been doing these types of interviews since 2009, and this is the first time he’s actually done one himself. It’s overdue, and it’s extremely fun and interesting.

You can read his full interview here.
